They were wrong from Day One.
The Moral Majority turned out to be neither. We needn't detail their embarrassing and egregious acts of self-destruction, for these holier than thou con men have already proven themselves to be the same pondscum that were thrown out of the temples for using them as a marketplace 2,000 years ago.
"Small government" meant turning everything back on the states who were ill-equipped to cope with the financial and logistical burdens that had been bestowed upon them. And don't even get me started on Newt's "Contract on America."
Note, too, that it wasn't the "tax and spend" Democrats who pissed away a multi-trillion dollar surplus in less than two years. It was a Republican Senate, House, White House, and a Supreme Court they packed with the most narrow, right-wing legal scholars that have been seen since Blackstone!
Also observe that the Education President's star program, "No Child's Behind is Left" (which was never funded because we needed to pay for a senseless war in Iraq, and had to give greedy billionaires another tax rebate), has failed spectacularly because the ones who couldn't graduate from high school (or can't afford or finagle a deferment like certain other individuals in the White House today!) are now in ready-made jobs for our permanent underclass in faraway exotic places, like bound for guerilla warfare and early graves in Iraq.
Somehow, nobody knows what happened to the $60- odd million dollars or so in cash sent to Iraq that's still unaccounted for. Alberto Gonzales and Tony Snow were talking just today about how "people's memories get fuzzy." Like Scooter's. And Karl Rove's. And Dick's.
Now, if we had invested what's wasted in a week in Iraq, and put it toward rebuilding New Orleans, the Crescent City would be restored already. But rather than build homes, let's instead send 40 or 50 thousand more troops to fight a war based on false pretenses with no clear objectives and no hope of final victory.
And what of Mr. Reagan's great contribution to our country? The systematic liquidation of the American middle class. If you're part of the administration, and feed off the war machine, big oil, insurance, tobacco, the pharmaceutical industry, or are a Wall Street speculator, you're rich- otherwise, you're poor.
It's that simple.
There is no middle ground any more.
All the heavy industry and technical jobs are now "outsourced" to India and similar places where they can get it cheaper, shoddier and faster. Like Wal Mart. And war profiteers like Halliburton (well, in their case, it's more expensive, shoddier, and worse), Boeing, Lockheed, Motorola, Exxon, The Carlisle Group. Halliburton was awarded no-bid sweetheart contracts personally greased for them by former CEO Cheney, the architect of this coup. How much clearer can the fleecing of America be?
So now, the final punchline: it was just announced that the staunch American patriots at Halliburton are relocating to Dubai to avoid taxes in their record (can you say "obscene?") profits, and probably extradition!
Then there's the other weasels like Enron, Tyco, WorldCom, Adelphia and their ilk who got away with billions because they were heavy contributors to the Republican party. And no money ever succesfully returned, with but a few "window dressing" convictions of scapegoats to protect the guilty.
So finally, at long last, the military-industrial complex Ike warned us about 45 years ago is now firmly entrenched, thanks to Dick, Ron, George I, and the George the Last. Hypocrites. Liars. Frauds. Thieves. Charlatans. Sellouts and snake oil salesmen all, and traitors to the country that bore them. THANKS A LOT, FELLAS! MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!!!

Red men build cities. Conservatives bomb them.
