Superargo?
Pah. Just an actor in a suit. You want someone better? How about...
EL SANTO!
El Santo, an actual Mexican luchadore enmascarado, wore his mask in public all the time IN REAL LIFE!
While maintaining his championship in the Mexican wrestling circuit, he investigated fantastic crimes, battled legendary monsters and fended off alien invasions IN HIS SPARE TIME!
In the movie Las Momias de Guanajuato, after unsuccessful attempts by BlueDemon and Mil Mascaras to put paid to the titular menaces, El Santo pops up in the last fifteen minutes of the film (with a flamethrower!) to save the day.
When he died in the 1980s, a nation mourned, as the legend was buried WEARING HIS MASK!
El Santo's legacy continues, as his son now carries on his career, his mission, and his identity.
Need more proof? Superargo: starred in only two movies. El Santo: starred in over fifty films, appeared in comics and fotonovellas, and currently has an animated series being developed.
I trust I made my point.
I actually saw this as the 3rd feature at a drive-in circa 1973!!!I was 14 and my friend's mom that drove us wanted to leave 'cause she'd never heard of anyone in this flick but we talked her into staying (until about 4 AM!) and it was an amazing experience!! Cheap but cool!
HOW did you get to see that?!? I have dim memories of this on TV as a child and have been looking for copies ever since! HELP, PEYER!
Marc, Turner Classic Movies sells the DVD [Link].
Amazing, I never thought to search that site for it. Ordered!
"Superfrankenstein fulfills childhood dreams", there's something for your page. Thanks very much!
The one I saw as a kid was "Superargo Vs. Diabolicus" and it was also life-changing.
I saw Superargo a few weeks ago. I thought I knew bad movies but this, this is right down there with the Coleman Francis filmograpy.
